Fall is officially here and 5th grade students are on a roll in mathematics. We have completed all of the beginning of the year assessments, are showing growth overall in math and are on a great path for an epic year.
With fall we have recently attended an assembly about character, anti-bullying and being your best self, had several pep rallies, homecoming and of course school pictures. Students have settled in with their teachers, are embracing expectations for behavior and homework and showing a great deal of maturity. STAAR Tests
Last week the 5th graders took their Math and Reading STAAR assessments and they did everything that we could have asked them to do. Students worked hard, showed incredible focus and utilized their strategies. We are so proud of their effort and the hard work that they have exhibited throughout this year not just on these testing dates. Scores from the STAAR tests should be in the week of April 20th and we will make parents aware of them as soon as possible. Adventure Camp We leave for Collin County Adventure Camp one week from today. Students are so excited, as are the teachers, to have this experience. Not only is Adventure Camp a review of all of the science TEKS the students have been working on all year, but a great bonding experience for the students as well as the beginning of overnight field trips that students will be given the opportunity to participate in at BRISD. 4th Quarter The 4th quarter is underway and the activities at BRE are beginning to stack up as our classes are beginning to draw to an end and we are addressing the last skills that the students need to be successful going in to 6th grade the events calendar is getting full quickly. Please take a look at the newsletter and upcoming events schedule to make sure that you don't miss anything. Upcoming Events Although the official beginning of Spring is not quite yet here, we are fully into the middle of the hustle and bustle of the season with sports, testing, longer days, and tons and tons of activities.
The 3rd quarter is quickly drawing to an end and 5th grade students are in the middle of their busiest time of the year which can be both a fun and stressful time for your student. Because your student has many different activities going on, combined with the STAAR tests on their horizon (Math, Tuesday, 3/28, Reading, Wednesday, 3/29 and Science, Wednesday, May 10th), Adventure Camp, etc. they may need a calm in their storm. When speaking to your student about the STAAR tests that they are facing try to remain upbeat, focus on their goals, ask them what their goal is and what they are doing to ensure that they achieve their goal for the STAAR and for the year. Although the tests are important, they are NOT more important than your student, their overall learning, the life experiences that they have made this year, being life long learners, and learning how to apply the math that they have learned this year to their everyday lives. It was so uplifting to see the amount of items we were able to collect to give back to those in need in Blue Ridge. I would personally like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who participated in the “Can the Door” Challenge.
